The Triangle Open Water Swim series consists of four 1-mile open water swims and one 2-miler located in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. We use the area's three major lakes - Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, and Harris Reservoir to conduct the events.
The series kicked off in 2009 with three 1-mile swims. In 2010 we added a 4th race day in July with both a 1-mile and 2-mile option. You can receive timely updates about the series through our Facebook fan page.

September 29 - Triangle Open Water Series Championship
Who does this benefit?:
Proceeds benefit the Triangle Aquatic Center, a 501c non-profit organization in Wake County. The Triangle Aquatic Center mission is: To build and operate public aquatic facilities for the health, safety, recreation, and competition needs of Triangle citizens and aquatic organizations. The flagship facility is the Michael Curran Aquatic Center in Cary, North Carolina. This indoor facility has a 50 meter competition pool, a 25-yard 8-lane training pool, and a warm water recreation/teaching pool.
Open Water clinic:
Each event will include a free 15-20 minute pre-race clinic by a certified coach to discuss some of the important elements of open water swimming competitions. The clinic will take place prior to the swim start.
Sanctioning and insurance:
The first 4 events in 2012 will be sanctioned with USA Triathlon while the Series Championship on September 29 will be sanctioned with US Masters Swimming. You must be an annual member of 1-day member. One day licenses are available for $12, available during the sign up process.
Age limits
You must be 13 or older to compete, 18 or older for the Series Championship with US Masters Swimming sanctioning.
Wetsuit rules:
Wetsuits will be allowed in accordance with USA Triathlon rules. If the water temperature is 78 degrees or below, wetsuits will be allowed. Between 78-84, wetsuits will be allowed but will not be scored. Over 84 degrees, no wetsuits. No exceptions!
Fees:
Entry fees are $27 until 2 weeks prior to the event ($30/$40 for the final event), and $35/45 thereafter. All swimmers must be a member of USA Triathlon. One day licenses are available for competitors who are not annual members for $10. Sign up through the specific race pages on the left.
Registration:
Please register through the links at the left, which will take you to the fsseries.com secure website. We may have a limited number of race day registrations available.
Refunds/Transfers:
50% of your entry fee will be refunded up to 14 days prior to the event. No refunds will be issued for any reason after 14 days. Event entries are not transferable between persons,
events or years. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to this policy. By registering for this event you agree to these refund terms. To request a refund you must complete the refund request form using

WEATHER POLICY
In the event of inclement weather the following procedures will be followed:
1. The event will be delayed 45 minutes in hopes the inclement weather will pass.
2. If inclement weather does not pass in 45 minutes, the swim will be cancelled. Registered swimmers will receive a 50% credit to another 2012 swim. No refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled due to inclement weather.
3. If the event is cancelled due to inclement weather prior to event weekend,
no refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled due to inclement weather. Registered swimmer will receive a 50% credit to another 2012 swim.
Awards:
The top three males and females will receive overall awards. The top 3 in USA Triathlon age-group categories will receive awards (no duplication). USAT Wetsuit rules will be in effect.
T-shirts:
Specially designed t-shirts will be given to competitors who sign up 2 weeks prior. We will do our best to provide t-shirts to everyone who signs up, but if you sign up in the last two weeks we won't guarantee a t-shirt.
Entry limits:
Entries are limited to the first 350 entrants per event in 2011.
Rain/Weather dates:
There are no make-up dates. We will only cancel an event if absolutely necessary for the safety of participants.

Why open water?
We are big fans of open water racing and training, and while North Carolina has plenty of triathlons, we don't a lot of organized open water races. We're changing that!
